My great-great-grandpa on my daddy's side was Shelton Isaac Karrick, who was born way back in 1886 in Pettis County, Missouri.  His family is from Scottish decent, and emigrated, first to Kentucky, and then to Missouri.  He was married Louise Pauline (Butterwick) Karrick, and they had two daughters, Lucile and, my great-grandma Ruby Elizabeth (Karrick) Schondelmeyer.

Shelton Isaac was a farmer and owned hundreds of acres of farm land north of Sedalia, MO where my daddy was born.  His farming acumen allowed for him to care for his family through the Great Depression, and his frugal lifestyle is in my daddy's genes...so you might need to buy me new toys and clothes or else I'll only get hand-me-downs.

Shelton Isaac was involved in Longwood Presbyterian Church, and those Presbyterian roots passed down to my great-grandma Ruby who was ordained as a Ruling Elder, and lives on in my daddy, who is now an ordained Presbyterian Minister.

Shelton Isaac passed away in 1975.  Though my daddy never got the chance to meet him, my great-grandma Ruby used to tell my daddy about his strong work ethic, which she also inherited and passed on down to my daddy.  I hope that I can be as disciplined as him, and I am proud that his middle name has become my first.

My great-great-grandpa on my mommy's side was Wayne Edward Shawaker, who was born way back in 1903 in Toledo, OH.  He was married to Jeanne (Eckhardt), aka Namie.  They had two children, my great-grandma, Sue, and her brother, Steve.

Wayne Edward was an extremely intelligent man.  He received a bachelors degree from The University of Michigan where he also received his law degree.  He was a successful and well respected lawyer in Toledo for many years.

Wayne Edward was also very active in community life, serving on a number of boards, and dedicated to his faith-life at Epworth United Methodist Church.

Wayne Edward enjoyed golfing, fine art, and spending time with family at the family cottage on Clark Lake in Michigan.

Wayne Edward passed away in 2000.  My mommy remembers that he always loved little children, and she used to call him "Little Gaga." even though he was older than, "Big Gaga."  Mommy named them based on who was bigger...silly mommy.  I look forward to spending summers at the family lake cottage like he did.  I am proud that his middle name will also be mine.
